Greetings.

While I've been getting wizard training at the wizard school - which, wow, I never expected to say that - I've been thinking about something lately. Really, it's kind of been on my mind since I got here and talked to some people.

I'm curious. How many of your worlds have magic? What's magic like there? Is it the same here in any way?

How are people who use magic treated where you're from?

Only monsters use magic where I'm from, though monsters where I'm from aren't like the monsters here.

Basically this is scientific curiosity. Or magic curiosity, I guess.

I think that might be more common than not in a lot of places. There's always that small fraction that's human, but not quite.

Did other people know? Can I ask that? How'd they treat you?

It definitely isn't. Or at least probably not, if they were using it that openly.

Still, it's nice to learn about other places!

My world has magic though it seems to be quite different from how magic works here. It's rather limited, where I come from, who can and cannot use magic whereas here it's simply a matter of learning to use it.

[It's rather fascinating. Oh and then there was the whale's world which was just as fascinating to hear about--]

The magic and non-magic worlds were kept separate back home. Those of us with the ability to use magic kept it to ourselves and had a world that existed parallel to the non-magic world, I suppose you could say. It..was unfortunate but wizards and witches, and other magical beings, have faced persecution through the years.

You said you know Papyrus, right? What was his magic like?

did they know i wasn't human? oh yeah. it's really obvious when you see me. i kinda scare the shit out of people so they usually reacted kinda bad.

[A wizard. They're another wizard. A wizard from another WORLD, sure. Not one who knew what Chara knew, had to go through what they went. But then again, by the sounds of it...it sounds like no matter what world they were on, the wizards and their descendants ended up facing some kind of persecution themselves.

It takes them a moment to respond to Newt's message. When they do, they don't give a video message, but they do switch, at least, to voice.]

...There are wizards where I'm from too. They're very rare, but humans with some magical powers did exist. It was the wizards who helped the humans end their war with monsters in my world by using their magic to seal the monsters away underground.

But then, since the wizards had magic like the monsters, people began to consider that they were only a step away from monsters. And because of that, they and their families should be treated like the monsters had, less the wizards decide to eventually strike against them.

...Humans are....kind of unique in how awful they are.

Truth be told, I actually didn't meet Papyrus until I got here. And he seems to be from an alternate universe, instead of the universe I'm from.

So sorry, I'm not really sure what his magic is like!

I'm sorry. That's the way a lot of humans are.

They think too much with fear, even when it's someone or something that has no plan to hurt them at all. Maybe it's a defense system, I guess. Or maybe they're just jerks.

That's all right. I saw it more as a challenge. I believe having to be discreet made me more skilled.

Bittersweet is one word for it. But I believe we should embrace this opportunity since we've been given a fresh start. Which, again is bittersweet, since I've lost my native powers, but we should see it as a chance to learn something new.

Was he like... this back in your world or did he make sense?

it's fine. [It's not.] i'm used to it at this point. and while i still get some looks n shit on this world, it's not nearly as bad as back home

people just don't trust the whole "demon" thing and honestly i can't blame them. idk if they have them where you're from or what their stories are like, but it's bad shit. even tho i was raised by humans as a human it doesn't matter to people

Do you miss it at all?

Your home I mean. New chances are great, but you don't always need one.

Like I said partner, I never really met him in my own universe. But I don't think he'd be too different.

I don't know if it would matter. Humans tend to put the worst names to things they fear and hate.

[The word 'demon' still has specific connotations where Chara is from, but they no longer really matter to Chara. Not after their own branding, or seeing how the monsters in their world had been branded and how different they were than humans said.]

If you're even a little different, not fully human, you're a monster to them.

It's nicer here in that regard, I guess. I'm not used to seeing humans and other creatures living peacefully with each other.

Well, whaddaya think of the magic you're learnin' here? Even if it ain't my thing, it seems like pretty impressive stuff.

[Newt can't help but frown as he listens to the story, a thoughtful one but a frown nonetheless. It's..not surprising to hear that beings of any magical nature were seen as something to be feared. Sad, but not surprising.]

Fear of what one does not understands seems to be a common occurrence across universes unfortunately.

[People hunt beasts here just as they do back in his world, for example.]

Humans are a species that build their society on fear, at least from what I've observed. Not all of them. There are those that stand out and are just as open minded as those of us aware of the magical aspects of the world. [Like Jacob.] But fear of the unknown drives them to be very harsh in their judgement unfortunately.

i've lived on a couple of different worlds now, and the one where people were shittiest about this sorta thing was my home world. but it was also the one that was least diverse. so. there's probably correlation there

i like this world tho. i hope we can stay here.

[ There's a long pause after Ena reads the text before she finally speaks. ]

Home - or what I would consider home - doesn't exist for me anymore. Vaikuntha is my new home, and I'm all right with that.

To tell the truth, I'm still getting the hang of it. But I'm a quick learner.

And it helps that some of its familiar. I've always had a way with the earth.

Sure. Not all. But it's enough.

[Chara is quiet for a moment. They need to think, because the only thing they can think to say is undeniably cruel.]

...I can't blame them. Sometimes...fear is something that we need.

But being feared is the worst thing in the world.

Can't say that I want to stay here. But it'd be nice if the people who got to could.

I have too much to go back home to.

I guess, in the end, I really am lucky.

I know it can be hard to find a new home. I hope this place does work for it.

I get you. Magitek isn't too different from what I used to work with back home. Same with Sky Pirate.

Paladin... that one's a little bit different. I keep feelin' like I'm just not doin' it right. Maybe holdin' back just isn't for me.

we got to stay in Crystallis, when everything was finished there. but i guess they weren't finished after all, cuz now we have Vaikuntha. i guess stuff never really ends, it just takes a break. it would be nice to be able to relax for once, tho
