[ The feed begins with a young girl with pink hair who appears to seated in a room of some sort. Doesn’t seem like any room, but yes. After a moment, she smiles once she realizes the video began. ]

Hello everyone.

I hope that for those of you who just arrived you're settling in and adapting to things comfortably enough. I hope the experience thus far has not been too traumatizing in any way. I know it's a lot to take in, but I assure you that for those of us here before, we're just as baffled as you are about ... well, everything.

[ There is a pause as she looks off, contemplative and worried. After a moment, her attention falls back to the camera. ]

What I've come to learn recently is that we all seem to be in this together. As in—ah. As in literally. [ Pause. How to talk about this? ] I haven't had a lot of time to think about it but, uhm. Does anyone else recall experiencing some kind of fight with an army of creatures that looked like ... [ her voice lowers as she looks off. ] people I recognized.

[ Frowning. Concerned. Deeply. Seeing that person in that memory was jarring. Yet within moments, she lifts her head to continue. ]

I haven't found any answers to explain what happened. Not yet. However, I figured I should ask here and see if anyone had any similar experiences? Maybe talk a bit about it to understand? It was the only thing I vividly remember [ —there was another, but. ] and I feel there was a reason behind seeing it. I'm not even sure if it was even real?

[ Brows furrowed and eyes downward, she takes a moment to collect her thoughts before lifting her head again with a smile renewed. Positive time! ]

Ah! Forgive me! I didn't introduce myself. For those of you new, my name is Euphemia! I'm a White Mage and Nurse at the Yun'Ashia hospital. I'm also going to be starting school very soon there, too. It’s been a goal of mine to go back and finish my studies! Being a student and getting to go to classes again—I’m excited! Is there anyone else going to school? Maybe we can be study friends! Perhaps we can be study buddies? I will admit that I sometimes need a little help here and there, so please, let me know if you're interested!

[ Her expression turns a bit soft as she stares intensely at the camera. Solemn. A pause. ]

[ A smile, albeit lacking the same mirth as her earlier one. With that, the video feed ends. ]

Hmm... I'm not sure. I went to a school called Hope's Peak Academy, it was a school for the truly gifted, those with Talent. I was chosen through lottery, so my only talent is luck. Since it focused on building your talents... studying was a bit whatever I felt like. But, graduating from there would set you for life, you could have any job you wanted.

Before the world ended I guess.

But, even before the future became foggy and had to be rebuilt, I never thought much of mine. It was enough to see everyone around me being amazing. I could die happy knowing that in some way, perhaps I was of help to them.

[ Listening is a ride. Everything sounds amazing thus far. And her smile remains bright. That is until he got to the world ending part. And then there was just ... shock.

Even as he continues like nothing ever happened, her expression remained slightly horrified. ]

[At first he doesn't seem to notice her reaction, but after a moment he seems a bit unsure.]

Don't worry, it all works out, it will work out. I'm sure of it.

[ She isn't sure. She's been down this road with him before. ]

Of course! Through the Despair, Hope was born. Hope went up against hope, and Hope was born! So I know the world will get better, it was already on it's way before I ended up here.

Despair brought Hope.

[ That sounds familiar. ]

Does ... despair really bring hope? How is pain a path towards peace?

When one has hit the bottom, and has felt the effects of despair, of the worst of people, and suffered, is when that person has the most hope. That is the spark that drives people to be better, and to make the world a better place. It is those individuals that wield such hope, that raises the masses from the depths of despair, and inspire them to be better people.

Sometimes it can be hard, and extremes might happen, but, Hope is always there, waiting, and when sought, and pursued, the world will always be better with it. It can take time, and it might need the right person, but Hope will always win in the end.

If we don't experience the pain, we will never know we needed hope.

[ Dear God. Why of all times is this suddenly making some sense from all people? Maybe she really has hit a low to understand this. Or maybe it's because she's learned things to make her want to learn. ]

... they became hope when they hit rock bottom. [ Thinking about someone. Someone specific. Did they hit rock bottom? That doesn't seem right. What they did to her was malicious. It was intended. Right? But then it was said the Requiem was to bring peace. She remembers. Placing all anger on him until his— ]

—but despair isn't the answer! Hope can be achieved without despair and pain. It just needs time and patience. Nobody ... should have to suffer.

Can it?

When Pandora opened the box she let out disease, poverty, misery, death, sadness... despair. Hope was what was left inside.

They exist with one another, like two sides of a coin.

If we have not suffered, we know not what true Hope is. If we have not hurt, we do not know what it's like when all is good. We can't appreciate peace until we have suffered war.

If no one has ever suffered, do they understand the concept of suffering? Do they understand what it's like to not make people suffer? Do they know what it's like to reach out and put effort into not making others suffer? If there is no context, the feelings are weak and action is impossible.

What if suffering just leads to death before becoming hope is achieved? Has that person become Hope at all if they never lived to fulfill it?

I wouldn't mind if I died as a stepping stone for Hope.

I suppose.

But, I understand what you mean. You want a world where no one has to suffer ever. But... that sort of world is a fairy tale. There is no way to make such a world. Even if the suffering experienced is simply bad luck out of anyone's control.

It's not a fairy tale! It's ... it's difficult, yes. But it can be achieved. Did you not say that despair brings hope? Is hope not peace? And if peace is achieved, is it not everlasting?

Hope is not peace, but hope can bring peace. Nothing lasts forever though, when people forget how things can be, institutions crumble.

Hoping for peace and reaching out for it is noble though, and a worth while effort. But. I dont think you can ever have perfect peace. Utopia doesn't exist in this world. Human beings can't be that good.

But, we can have something close. We can strive for a society that tries to be good, where most people are happy.

I don't want it to be perfect, I just believe it can stand to lower the tragedies and suffering. I never imagined that peace required so much pain. It just ... doesn't seem right. Especially for a small amount of time.

Humans are flawed, without the right people to guide us, we fall into ruin easily. With the right people to ruin us, civilization can collapse in a night.

But, anything worth it is hard. The important thing is to never lose Hope, and reach towards that goal no matter what.

I will never lose hope. It's all I have left...

I'm glad, that you'll never lose it. Hope is amazing and powerful when you keep it close and never let go. When it's the last thing you have, you can strive forward and start a new.
