oh one more thing
Even the best performer is going to have times when a show goes badly. Maybe you make a mistake. Maybe the audience isn't giving you a fair chance. Maybe you do everything right but you just don't click with the people you're talking to and it's not really anybody's fault. It feels horrible but you just have to suck it up and learn what lessons you can from it.
So even if your date doesn't work out the way you want, don't take it as a sign that it wasn't worth trying, okay? It sucks to be rejected, but it can still help you figure out what types of people you like and what you want out of a relationship in the first place.
[Wow, he sure is spouting a lot of relationship advice for someone who's never had a successful long-term relationship.]

how many times did you get rejected?
cause its happened a lot to me [He's only 17 though, but it feels like this happened for most of his life.]

Okay, he knows he made a few tentative attempts in his early twenties before giving up. In high school, though... He's pretty sure some dates happened, but pinpointing exactly when they took place and with whom is another matter entirely. His memories are too disjointed, even with Patches trying to help fill in the blanks.
...Ah, forget it. Thinking about that time in his life is just gonna make him depressed.]
I don't remember exactly but Ive definitely failed more than succeeded
I wasn't very good with people when I was in school, believe it or not
And by the time I got better, I was too busy with rakugo to think about dating

sorry for the weird question but are you allowed to get married if youre a rakugo performer?

You're not really supposed to date when you're a zenza, although some masters are more lenient about that. You get more freedom once you're promoted to futatsume but you also cant bum off of your shisho as much anymore, so you're probably gonna be busy looking for work
plus the lack of steady income can turn people off

hell, thats why boy bands are so popular

I mean of course there are plenty of women who like rakugo, but it still has a reputation for being a stuffy old man thing. And it's even more niche in America than it is in Japan.
