[Once Nanamo had figured out the Mognet, it was childsplay. And the alphabet was close enough to her own that it was easy to write.

Mind you, it wasn't perfect, but she sent a message to the general public. In the way she knew how.]

I am in need of a tutor in the martial ways. My dear friends from home are doing their best, but I could use a secondary assistance to the problem.

Required: Skilled with curative magics and/or casting of them

If I'd known you were looking for both blade and cane skill, I'd have volunteered right away, you know. It's a different kind of blade, granted, but... I can help with the healing bit.

Truly I did not want to burden you too deeply dear friend, I just wanted to see about learning as much as I can.

Certainly, I think lighter blades would suit you better... of which I have far less experience in, sadly. In my case, my weapon probably outweighs me.

As for the healing thing... question! Does "going out and getting myself incidentally sliced up" count as practice?

Well, I did not mean to be coddled. As we discussed, I am prepared to learn.

So the hard way is fine. It would not be much experience in the field if I did not acclimate to the nature of battle.

As long as you feel comfortable with teaching me, then I will learn. It might be rough going, but a trial would not be an undertaking if I was taking it easy.

There is no exact science to fighting. But there are tips that you should know. The first is to pay attention to an opponent's eyes. Make sure you notice where they are going as that can lead to where they are attacking and what they are focusing on. [As though to demonstrate this, Makoto tries to focus on Nanamo's nose before lowering it to where her chest would be.]

Next, be aware of what they can attack with and how they attack. Fists, swords, ranged attacks and spells all have different requirements in positioning and style. Identify your threats and know how your opponent can use them against you.

Hmm... I see. In such, it is like the skill that skilled combatants learn, such as "reading tells". The art of figuring out what kind of attack is coming from by experience and reading body language.

I can only provide you with some basic guidance in that, Namo-chan. A lot of that you have to learn through experience.

A few other things to keep in mind: first, the positions of yourself and your opponents. Second, your opponent's speed. Third, their most effective range to fight and your most effective range to fight.

There are many battle hardened Lalafell in my home country, and my dear Papashan is the head of the Sultansworn, a group of Paladins dedicated to the defense of the Sultana. Size matters not with the Lalafell, and even the smallest of us are strong of body and sturdy of mind.

[She nodded.] Lalafell can jump the height of a average man, and even my own jumping prowess is excellent. I could use that to my advantage.

Then I will have to remember not to take Lalafells lightly. [She nods approvingly]

And that is a good strategy. By making yourself small and quick, you may find yourself being the challenge of enemies larger than you. You can also be quite dangerous if you duck under the effective range of an enemy's attacks.

However there are also sweeping attacks and larger attacks that use their own mass against you. It would not do if you avoid a kick only to end the cushion of a rather clever giant, as an example.

This is true. Being light on the feet is a prime tenant of combat in my world, avoiding the hardiest of blows rather than taking them.

To be told in truth, I have long since considered dissolving the Sultanate and giving power to the people. However, to grow strong in my own abilities, I need to decide on how to proceed in this world.

I agree, but I would also suggest that you maintain the utmost caution. Real combat is not the same as sparring. Real combat is brutal, painful, and alarming. You will see your friends hurt and will bear witness to a frame of mind that would see the elimination of opponents.

I do not question your convictions or the merit of your goals. I speak only of my experiences and wish to convey to you the severity of what you are aspiring to do.

Not in a group capacity. I have traveled many a malm, and yet I have to see combat for myself. I have recruited tutors in order to teach me how to fight in a real setting, but it is slow going.

I have a suggestion, then. I would recommend for your first outing you should be with people that have had past experience and may be able to protect you should the situation is dangerous.

If it is alright with you, I would not mind offering my services in this regard. I have had a few experiences in dungeons and am not too bad at a fight. While I may not be able to offer you much in your magic, I could do my best to make sure you are safe.

I would accept this offer, thank you. Without a suitable aid, I would possibly end up face down in the mud due to some unforseen mechanic.
