I know it's been a long time, but I was wondering -- is there anyone still around who was close to Futaba Sakura? Especially someone from her world?

Her or Shiro -- Takashi Shirogane. I'm not sure what world he came from.

I had some questions -- no time like the present, right?

I was about to let you know but seems I was late. My apologies. Since Bonnie was living with me, I'll take care of her belongings.

I'm sorry, Kenichi. I wish we could figure out how to keep our people from disappearing in the first place.

No need to apologize, Reno. This is something beyond our control. I can only hope Bonnie made it back to Saori and Mary safely.

I won't let this new loss set me back like last time.

Ravens, huh? Consider it done. I'd been wanting to make a trip there after doing some reading about this world, so two birds one stone. When do you want to meet up?

Did you ever meet Takeshi Nakagawa? He was friendly with Shiro and... I think his name was Keith?

The name doesn't sound familiar, but it's possible that we've met in passing and just not had the opportunity to speak much. And yes, it was probably Keith.

Do you mind if we meet in person? There's a couple things that might be personal.

I don't think that would be a problem. Did you have somewhere specific in mind?

I have a business out in Sparks Golsaucia. But if that's too far, I can try to meet you somewhere halfway. Were you out in Yun'Ashia?

Arito, actually. But I've just started working as an apprentice pilot so I should be able to meet you wherever.

[When Reno got Pidge's text, he met her at the front door as promised. It was early enough in the day that he hadn't opened the club for business yet, so they'd have plenty of privacy for a quiet conversation.]

Thanks for comin', yo. Take a seat wherever you like -- you want a drink or anything? Obviously not alcoholic if yer flyin', but, y'know, water, tea...

[If nothing else, Pidge was true to her word, and she made sure to let him know the next time she was in the area.

She still wasn't sure what kind of questions she was going to be dealing with, but she figured that anyone Shiro chose to associate with had to be decent. So she followed him inside and took a seat at a nearby table.]

Thanks. Water's fine for now.

[Since she'd be flying after this.]

[Reno chose his next words carefully.]

Shiro and I had a mutual friend, but I never got the time to really know Shiro himself. And then it was too late.

How did you know him? What kind of man was he?

Oh?

[She's not even sure why she's so surprised. Shiro always had a way of making people want to be around him.]

He was friends with my father and my brother. They worked together back home.

[That's certainly an understatement.]

Shiro's a good man. A good friend, a good leader. He's one of the bravest people I know.

[Reno smiled.]

Good. I kind of had that idea, but it's nice to hear it from someone who knew 'im. I put a lotta' faith in my friends' judgments.

So if you were a good friend of Shiro, an' Shiro was so great... I guess my next question is how would you describe yerself, Pidge?

[She nodded at that. It was a sensible way of looking at it.

His next question made her pause, though, because she wasn't really in the habit of describing herself.]

That depends. Do you want an honest answer, or do you want to know how I'd describe myself if I was just saying what I thought people wanted to hear?

[Was she stalling? Possibly. But it was important information to have.]

[Reno chuckled. If Pidge was stalling, he didn't seem bothered by it. In fact, he seemed pleased.]

A clever question. That's how we all live, right? We show people what we want them to know.

Why not both? How you'd describe yerself to look good, and yer honest opinion.

People are going to assume whatever they want to assume, regardless. At least in my experience.

[Which was ridiculous, but it was just the way the world worked. And it was something she'd used to her advantage on numerous occasions.]

If I was talking myself up, I'd point out that I'm a tech genius and probably one of the best hackers you'll ever meet.

[The amusing part of that was that both of those things were true. She'd built the machine that led them to the Blue Lion, after all.]

But if I'm being honest... I'm just a kid who got pissed at people lying about her father and brother. So I ran away from home to try and find them after they were announced dead. I never asked for any of the things I got dragged into, and I certainly never asked to be dropped here.

"Hmm." Reno smiled warmly at Pidge as he listened. "So... you're smart, you're driven, an' yer headstrong. Did you ever find your family?"

He had a feeling that, if what Pidge said was true, she would have been able to do it. She might not have found them alive, but she probably would have been tenacious enough to find something. It reminded Reno a little of himself.

"Yea, the uh... announcement was just an attempt to cover up what really happened to them. But they're fine." She wasn't any less annoyed about how things had played out, but at least she'd gotten to see her family again. Even if it was only for a little while before being dragged back here.

Pidge still had no idea how all of that even worked.

"I guess pilot error sounds less suspicious than alien abduction." In some logic, sure.

I'll be there.

[ Angeal does show up early, seeking out the Turk without hesitation. ]

Reno?

[The club was empty, for now, except for the bartender checking inventory. Reno smiled and waved Angeal over to where he was sitting at one of the tables.]

And... a girl named Makoto, too. Right? Short brown hair?

You were friends?

We didn't get that far. But I could tell she was smart. I'm disappointed I didn't get to know her better.

Can we actually meet in person? I think Futaba had a pretty good point to keep personal things off the MogNet.
