[ The screen blips on to Hunk, reclined across a couch. Balmogra the moogle's pom-pom occasionally drifts into the top of the frame, and Hunk's eyes keep glancing towards it. As he starts talking, he's entirely oblivious to the fact that his voice is high-pitched and squeaky. ]

Hey, so with other people asking about things like our stories, our worlds, and our jobs, I realized that we don't actually know a lot about what we can all do! Like... I learned that some people have never been grocery shopping before! Or some can't cook! Or some people don't know how technology here works. Since we're all stuck here, we might as well try to help each other out, right? So what are some things you know or want to know?

Me, I know about cooking and engineering and mechanics. But I don't know anything about magic. Or how to defend yourself from a monster that's up close and trying to eat you. Or how to use a giant fork in a fight? Or why they use forks here to begin with.

[ He pauses for a moment, looking almost uncomfortable, and then- ]

And if you're embarrassed to say something you can't do, you can always send it to me and I'll mention it for you!

Really? Ah, that'd be so much fun! Ever since seeing one as a child, I've always wanted to try finishing one, but I never seem to be able to. [Or she loses it. That happens a lot, too.] It's too bad no one can teach me French, though. I've always thought I'd look stylish reading a French magazine...you understand, don't you?

[Oh, can he not hear his own voice...that's strange. Still funny though.]

[ Hunk stares, eyes wide, as this guy starts telling him about, well, things he wished he could unhear. The more he does hear, the greener he turns, but when Komaeda says the word fantasies? ]

P-pardon me.

[ And a hand reaches up to press what's clearly an off button, because the video feed cuts out altogether. ]

[His head tilted a bit in confusion. He felt he had explained it pretty well, but then he might be missing information. He was about to ask when the video cut out.

Oh well.

Still, a good line of thought was brought up. With so many people from so many places being together, there should be interesting things they could offer each other. Well, not himself, he was trash, but everyone else should have something worthwhile.

Because of this, he didn't feel this had been a bad interaction at all.]

What... uh... what's Ether?

[ Hunk looks absolutely baffled, but there's a twinkle in his eyes that shows he's interested in the idea of having some kind of innate magical power. Very interested.

The only person he knows that would count for sure would be Allura, but... maybe it's just because he and the other Paladins didn't know they could? ]

You sound like you have experience killing people with forks.
And chef's knives.
I'm kind of terrified. (゜ロ゜)
But you seem like you know a lot.

Do you think a kitchen knife could do anything against monsters?
They're kind of small.
And I've never fought a monster.
Have you fought a monster before?

[ Hunk looks away for a moment, filing away that he should try to find a Rubik's cube or similar puzzle for Azusa. The Vaikunthan puzzles might be worth some of his own time, too! ]

I... don't, but... [ He laughs sheepishly, never one to care much about style. ] ...You could just learn one of the native languages! You could actually use it here, too.

Ether is a kind of power. Not everyone can use it, but those that can are able to accomplish a number of abilities by manipulating the power to do certain things. I'm not really much of an Ether user myself, Elly is much better at it than I am, she can do things like summon waves of fire or lightning storms.

[ Hunk hears that low-effort chirping and, well, echoes a "chirp chirp" of his own. He hears the bass in his voice, and compares it to the sound from Yue's, as well as his own memories of chatting with Yue, and... ]

Did your voice rise a few octaves, or has it always been like that?

[ Hunk pauses at her silence, and his eyes go wide with fear and concern. ]

No, seriously! Say something again, your voice sounded funny for some reason.

[ And he, of course, still sounded kind of like a muppet. ]

Oh good!
I was scared it'd be something weird.
Do I know how to do anything weird?

[ He pauses again, getting visibly nervous. ]

Does piloting a ship count as weird to you?

Hm. Maybe you'd be well served looking into pressure points or other sensitive bits. Ye know, striking at eyes, noses, nuts and the like. 'S about where I started, back when I was younger and smaller.

Er...am I? I sound fine to my own ears.

I had experience with using knives for more than just cutting onions, yes
However, this place wiped it all off so I need to start my training again
The how-to knowledge will be useful

Depends on the size of the monster, type, how hard is their outer shell and how fast they are
I have fought some, using daggers but I wouldn't dare take on them by myself
NO ONE should try to do that

You don't? I suppose that suits you, doesn't t? Shopping in import shops, reading fashion magazines, lounging on the riviera...those don't seem like Hunk activities to me.

[Except for maybe the last one? She giggles to herself at that mental note. She bets he likes to lounge on the beach. Everyone does.]

I hadn't thought of that. I wonder, what languages do you think there are to learn? I wonder if I did, would I finally learn what 'kupo' means...

[Yeah, see, Hunk's chirp sounds a lot more chirpy than Yue's! He tilts his head in a (birdlike?) questioning sort of manner.]

Eh? Um...I don't think it sounds any different. [Pause.] What's an octave?

YOU'RE IN LUCK, FOR WHILE SCIENCE IS MY FORTE, I AM ALSO A SEASONED EXPERT IN MAGIC! BY VIRTUE OF BEING A MONSTER. WHO IS MADE OF MAGIC.

[He grins, not realizing that his own voice might end up squeaky as heck.]

I SUPPOSE THE TRICK WITH MAGIC IS TO FOCUS. ENVISION THE BULLETS YOU WISH TO CREATE! THEY ARE BUT AN EXPRESSION OF YOUR TRUE ESSENCE. WHITE BULLETS ARE THE MOST COMMON, BUT IF YOU REALLY WANT TO JAPE YOUR FOES, THEN A CAREFUL COMBINATION OF WHITE AND BLUE, OR EVEN BLUE AND ORANGE SPELLS CAN CONFOUND THE MIND AND BODY ALIKE!!!

AT LEAST, THAT'S HOW IT WORKS WITH MONSTERS. HUMANS AR AN ENIGMA TO ME.

[He's seen and heard all the squeaky muppet voices from the iMog. Nope.]

I imagine you could use a fork like a spear. That advice about training with staves could be pretty useful. I need more practice myself if you need someone to spar with. Should be easier than swords.

We won't have to worry about any edges.

[ Hunk is understandably surprised. Elly doesn't seem like the sort to be able to throw fire and lightning around! But he can't stop wondering. ]

Maybe that's why the Lions chose us as their pilots? Because we're... better at Ether.

[ Or whatever the language is- he's sure he'll figure it out later. He tries to hide a little smile, but he does very, very poorly. ]

So how do we know how much Ether I have? Is there some kind of blood test or something?

That's a good question, I'll have to check with Elly that's more her department. Gears can definitely react to high Ether, especially Omnigears, so it is definitely possible. I have to ask though, are your Lions actually alive? It sounds like they are but I'm not sure.

[ Hunk can't help but giggle at the woman's advice, because he can't remember the last time he heard someone refer to "the nuts." He grunts upon further consideration, both because of the sound of her voice being normal to her (is that just how she sounds?) and... ]

Okay, but what if it doesn't have a face? Or, y'know, nuts.

[ Can she come up with an example of that? Hopefully. Hunk isn't sure he can describe human-sized tardigrades. And he'll just listen to see if that weird voice is her real voice. ]

OF COURSE NOT!
I wouldn't fight something one-on-one even if I DID know how to fight with a knife.
What if something goes wrong?
Or a SECOND monster shows up?
I like NOT being monster chow.
Do monsters even know how to cook? ヽ(ﾟﾛﾟﾉ)
