[ The announcement comes early on the 21st, though not ungodly early. Regis himself seems composed, tranquil, though those who have had a chance to spend time with him can see he is pale and drawn, his eyes red-rimmed if dry. ]

Good morrow. It seem this night, the Dream Width has taken several people of note from us.

Amongst them are my son, Noctis Lucis Caelum, and his fiancée, Lunafreya Nox Fleuret. If you know them and either of them has made a commitment you are in need of assistance with, please let me know and arrangements will be made.

And, please. Think of them well.

Back home, some fates are more difficult than others.

...Yeah. When my friend was here, she said - I didn't do well.

[ A slight hesitation. And voice very quiet. ]

Betimes, even not doing well may, ultimately, be necessary. Though it may ill suit you.

My friends are in danger, and I failed to protect them. How could that be necessary?

'twould depend, I think, on how the future - yours and theirs - would be shaped had you succeeded. Would they not have made their way to where they needed to go? Would they not have learned something on the way, be it at the cost of danger and pain, that they would eventually need?

We know not the ways the road of time will wind.

And though you did not do well then, how will you do better now?

I don't know if they have a future. If I couldn't protect them - Aqua was so hurt, and Ven...I haven't seen Ven. I don't know if he made it. And - There's someone I know didn't make it. Because of me.

[ Regis is quiet for a little while, then, softly, ] I am sorry. 'tis the most difficult in this place to see people go who have no future. But though you may have not protected them, you would not have chosen to put them in that danger - or you would not feel the keenness of the situation so.

You may need to try and have faith in the strength of your friends. That they will persevere, and they will reach the next day, and the day after that.

Of course I wouldn't have!

I do believe in them. Even Ven, he's gotten so much stronger. But...I'm not sure if believing is going to be enough this time. [No fairy godmothers for them.]

Sometimes, it is not enough. But are you willing to do less than even that?

[ Gently. But giving up, especially on those closest to one, is not something Regis will encourage. ]

No. Not less, but - there has to be more.

I'm not sure I should be here. If I went back, maybe there would be something I could do.

[ Regis considers for a moment, again, then. ]

Perhaps, though when I returned to Eos, I remembered naught about Vaikuntha and what I had learned here.

Though even with what your friend said, perhaps you will rally and help them through all the same.

Even if I don't remember, I should be there.

Even if I can't help, I should be there.

When I was here at first, I was taken from the middle of a road trip that I was on along with four other friends. Two of whom were here - one still is. Neither of them remembered me going missing at all.

We were on the way back so I could step up and shoulder some of the burden from my father. I... did that, without delay.

I know not how it works, but you will be.

That's...I guess that's good. It's not right for me to be the only one who escapes.

[A very quiet voice.] It's my fault they're in trouble.

You will go back to help them. [ Just as quietly. ] I have faith that that will be so.
