never forget them [video]
[It's Tidus, sitting in the bleachers at Myste Aura's blitzball stadium. There's a distant, sad look in his eye at first, but he quickly glances at his moogle over the screen and smiles.]
I don't know if Vaikuntha does this, but where I'm from, blitzball's used to remember people we've lost. My dad was a huge blitzball star, and he vanished without a trace when I was a kid. Years later, we had a memorial tournament for him---but then the city was attacked, and we never finished the game.
Then I went somewhere else, where cities were attacked all the time. Everybody was worried that they were gonna die tomorrow. It could happen any time. But watching or playing blitzball was the happiest thing they ever did. Anyone could die tomorrow, and everyone had lost people they loved, so you had to really live while you could. It wasn't that they forgot them...they just remembered the good times.
[Which finally leads him to what he came here to say. He sighs.]
My best friend vanished last week. Rikku. I don't know if any of you remember her---she was blond, bright, loud? She'd lost more than almost anyone back there, but she never gave up. She made us stop dwelling on sad memories, forced us to live. I'm...actually working on a new shot, to remember her. And...I know I'm not the only one who's lost someone lately. It's getting pretty bad.
So here's what I'm thinking: we could all die tomorrow, or disappear tomorrow, but let's have fun while we can, right? If anyone wants to come learn the game, I'm good---we've got plenty of time.
[He's smiling, but he's learned a trick from his love---smiling when you're feeling sad. It sort of helps.]

[ Definitely a worthy cause and, among everything else, a way to get his mind off from what's coming. ]
video;
But we could let everyone get their feet wet and have a good time!
video;
And... it's a good reason to push more with it. To remember.
no subject
And...I hope you'll get to see them again, whoever they are.
no subject
For some, I'll be the memory.
Private
Rinoa's gone too.
Private
Damnit. I'm sorry, Selphie.
Where are you?
Private
I'm off today so I'm at my apartment, chilling with my Moogle.
It's probably better that she's not here.
Private
[He sighs.]
Doesn't make them any less missed. You want me to bring dinner?
Private
[Jaelyn whacks Selphie with her pom which causes Selphie to chuckle.]
Okay, okay! Dinner sounds great but bring some kupo nuts for Jaelyn while you're at it.
[Somebody has a problem.]
Private > action
[A few hours later, after a mad rush through town and splurging on the fastest air travel he could manage, Tidus and Zunne show up at the door. He knocks brightly, as he always does, other arm loaded down with goodies.]
Hey, Selph! Delivery!
Private > action
Just in time!
And... thanks for coming.
action
[Tidus closes the door and shuffles over to lay out his offerings. The kupo nuts are quickly pushed in Jaelyn's direction before Zunne can eat them all (the grumpy stoic has a weakness!).
He lays out the rest of the food, then turns to Selphie. His smile fades a little, but there's understanding in his eyes.]
It's just...the quiet's kind of a bummer.
[He opens his arms and gives her a look, a silent offer, but he'll gladly busy himself with arranging plates if that's too much.]
action
The quiet sucks. Not even riding roller coasters until you throw up doesn't make it go away.
Kupooooo!
[Selphie looks up and over her shoulder toward Jaelyn who has the happiest look on her face.]
Share with Zunne!
[She laughs softly.]
I'm glad Jaelyn is here. You too.
action
Yeah. But hey, maybe I could go to the park with you next time!
Just. Maybe not after dinner.
[He steps back with a tiny smile and watches Zunne reluctantly share. It's cute.]
Don't worry, Selphie. I've got plenty for both of us.
action
I'll go grab some plates and stuff!
[She scurries away into the kitchen and starts clunking about in there before calling out:]
What'd you get anyway?
action
And maybe some cake afterward.
action
[Arriving in the kitchen, Selphie grabs the step-stool that she's purchased and steps up onto the top level. She pulls out two bowls, dinner plates and sandwich plates alongside two glasses for the food and drinks. After she stacks the plates and bowls neatly, she moves to the fridge and pulls out a pitcher of juice that she'd made that morning before pulling out enough cutlery for two from the dishrack in the sink.
The juice and cutlery arrive at the table first before the brunette scurries back and brings out the plates and bowls for everything else.]
Too bad, we can't have the cake first. Everything sounds great though! A lot better than the sandwich I was thinking of having.
[Selphie is a very responsible adult, can you tell?]
Re: action
We could have the cake first, but where's the fun in that?
[He grins across the table and picks up a spoon]
True warriors have to be disciplined. That's what my guardian always used to say.
[Zunne has also said it, and alludes to this with a soft, bitter 'kupo']
action
[Selphie uses her fork to fish a piece of mushroom out of the noodle and flicks at Zunne before sticking her tongue out at the moogle.]
Comments from the grumpy ones are not permitted during dinner! If I want to eat cake first and spoil my appetite as Matron used to say, then so be it!
action
Yet for all your wishes to understand, you hardly ever listen!
All right, all right, I'll try harder. I'm sorry. [Tidus shook his head.]
Was your Matron like that too?
voice;
I'm just not cut out to be an athlete.
voice;
But what's your usual?
[Does he have to worry about you?]
Re: voice;
-It's laced in metaphor, but the slight slur to her words is probably a clue.-
voice;
Yeah, that...
Just be careful, okay?
Re: voice;
voice;
People here really care about you, you know? Just don't forget that.

[ She rubs the back of her head, looking kinda. Awkward. ]
Video
[He cracked a smile. She'd want to be remembered with a smile, he thought.]
But I'm still here, so it's my job to make sure we all get through whatever gets thrown at us.
Video
[ At least they have the kind of friendship where he can stay kinda lighthearted right now. ]
I've kinda been sticking to the edge of things, but if everyone who knows what they're doing is gonna get abducted by aliens or whatever... might have to get in the thick of it.
Video
[He should really be more worried than he is, but.]
They'll have to fight me if they want to take me away, though. I'm not leaving you guys if I can help it. I think there's something important we need to do.
Video
Re: Video
Yeah, but it can't just be random. I think we're meant for a pretty tough quest.
Video
[ Not that she has to do it. ]

But I've seen people come back, too. Might be a couple days, might be a couple months, but sometimes people come back. So I'm sure she's fine.
As for the rest -- you got the right idea. Make it count.

I mean, I hope it doesn't.
But all we can do is keep looking for answers and stick together while we can, so I'm gonna do that.
