[Finally finished with her moping, Selphie decides that in light of their invitation to the new empire, she wants to have a discussion with the entire group. She's hesitant about posting to the linkshell but this is definitely something she's put a great deal of thought into and hopes that her idea is one that everyone get can behind.]

Hey Everyone,

I've been thinking about these invitations that we've all received to go to Sen Devadatta for their upcoming festival.

It's really weird how all of a sudden they decided to open up their borders and let outsiders in and well, I don't really like this idea. Something seriously stinks about this whole thing, but we still need to go. There's still a lot about this world that we don't know and maybe meeting with this Empire might shed some light on the mysteries that we've all encountered.

With that in mind though, I think that we should pick some representatives from the group to speak on everyone's behalf. It would be beneficial to not only put an organized front together when we meet the Empress but to also show that we're capable of fully cooperating with each other. Not everyone is going to get along with the other and that's okay as long as we all share the same common goal.

We'll probably also need some people to take down information so that we can share it with those who decide not to come.

I didn't plan on speaking myself because there's others who are better suited for this. I'm more of a in the moment kinda gal so it'd be better to not have someone blurting out random things in the middle of an important meeting.

I can help with the note taking! Information gathering was a bit of a specialty for me back on my world so if I can help in any way, I'd like to do that.

I do think before I speak, but wizards aren't always known for subterfuge. Or at least, we try not to lie directly. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing when meeting someone, but people seem rather unsettled.

What sorts of things did you do back in your world? Specifically?

Well... I'm actually a mercenary back home so usually the squad leader spoke for the team. It's weird being the only one of my team here but I've done it before and I'll do it again!

I'm a wizard, and one of the things I specialize in is land-sea interactions. It's probably one reason the Powers made me a Senior so young. So I usually have at least a human or another whale with me. Or both.

So you can use real magic instead of para-magic?

[Except if Selphie was a sorceress then she wouldn't be alive right now.]

What they call magic here is like... humans who aren't wizards can't speak to whales. They can pick out basics like when we're alarmed, so that gives them a few 'words'. So they know that singing back 'shark' will cause concern if we don't realize that it's a human's machine mimicking us. That's what the magic here is like: we know a few words and what they do.

Wizardry is being able to actually speak a language, rather than knowing how others react to a few words. Except you're talking to the universe. I don't know how that fits with your magic and para-magic. Where I come from, there's just wizardry and associated talents.

Oh, I gotcha now. Sounds like Wizardry and the magic from my world are completely different.

It would be really neat to be able to talk to whales though.
