01. AIRSHIPS!! [Text]

I didn't know we were gonna get the chance to get our own airships! I know I missed being able to wake up and see nothing but sky and clouds out the window. Made drying the laundry a lot easier, too.

But that kinda got me thinking- you couldn't get very far without an airship back where I came from, but a lot of the people I've talked to have said they've never seen anything like them before! I know a few people here have had SOME sort of flying machine back in their world, though. If yours did too, I gotta know- what were they like?

For that matter, how many other pilots do we HAVE here, anyway?

1. The sights! You can enjoy the scenery from outside of your window while taking a train. You just get to stare at clouds and rain and whatever the weather of that day is inside an airship.
2. It's relaxing! You don't have to worry about focusing on keeping the airship in the air. You can talk with friends, read a book, take a nap in the bunk bed in the private car or play a game of triple triad. The possibilities are endless!
3. You get to travel with friends if you want to or you can go by yourself. I always like being on the train with my friends. It's the best!

All those things apply to airships too, ya know! (Other than that thing about the clouds) Besides, can't trains only go along a set path? Airships can go anywhere!

Well... you're not wrong about that but trains have always been way easier to access where I'm from. When you've only got one airship for an entire world, it makes it inconvenient to rely on it. Trains are my favourite for this reason.

Alright, if Trains are what you have available then I guess trains are what you use.

Why didn't they make more than one airship, though?

Trains are where it's at and don't you forget it!

Why didn't we make more? Couldn't tell ya to be honest. We didn't even have radio broadcasts until super recent so trains are the best we've got.

The airship's old, lost tech, right? Something you can't reproduce?

Kinda? Sorta? Maybe.

It's kinda hard to say. Maybe there were more when I was too young to remember but for now, there's definitely only one.

And three military academies that can hover on land and sail through the seas. But yeah... not easy to produce.

[Selphie's pretty sure that if anyone could mass produce airships, it'd be Esthar but they were still a fairly reclusive nation.]

You can't make airships but you have flying, sailing SCHOOLS??

They were made before I was even born!

There's only one place that I know of in my whole world that could make of this stuff and they're not exactly keen on sharing.

I did! Garden is a great place to grow up! We went all over the world in one of them and we kinda sorta trashed a second one...

Listen, this is gonna sound strange but there was a GROUND under all these things too, right? I just wanna make sure.

When you were talking about big floating 'gardens' I started wondering if all the land in your world was just a bunch of floating islands.

Mine was like that.

Oh! I see what you mean now! I should've been more clear. The Garden's kinda hover in the air on land and are like a boat in water? Does that make more sense now?

I can see why you would need airships in that kinda place. A regular boat or a train wouldn't work out very well in that case.

No, but it's close enough.

There are trains, but they're closer to industrial movers. Not a whole lot of distance for them to cover. And with airships everywhere, it doesn't really make sense to just build bridges.

Never really used any of them, though. People usually contacted ME to do the moving.

Well, you need both types of trains to make the world work! What can't be moved by ship and transit gets sent on a freight train.

Well, if airships are more convenient where you're from, you've gotta do what you gotta do.
